Give and Take

Myra pulled the car seat belt across her chest, buckled the metal lock and said,
“Are you taking the Interstate or Old Kings Road?”

Her husband increased the air conditioning than said, “What difference does it make?”

“Well, if you’re going by CVS I’d like to stop and get a few things.”

“Does that mean you want me to drive by CVS?”

“No, it means that if you’re taking Old Kings, please stop at CVS, I’m not telling you which way to go, just that I would like to stop at CVS, if you are going that way.”

“So you are telling me which way to go.”

“Well if I were driving I would take Old Kings Road and stop at CVS.”

“But you are not driving, do you want to drive? Because if you want, you can, or you can tell me which way to go.”

“Forget, it just drive.”

“Forget it just drive, okay it’s forgotten I’ll just drive.”

“Great, which way are you going?”

“Old Kings Road!”

. . . Seriously just saying

Claudia, You have related to me for sure and I am sure so many couples. This could be the exact conversation in our car. I am just wondering? If you suggest a parking spot, does he park anywhere but the spot you suggested. Just asking! Thanks for making me smile and chuckle today!

      J Bird,
Thanks for commenting. No, No, No I never suggest parking or the better way to park and have watch Mr. Wonderful aka, my husband, drive sideways through parking lots and back in and out of the same spot for years. Parking, don’t go there . . . Seriously

You’ve captured the essence of a conversation that most of us have been in. excellent writing!

Fantastic! This feels like the story of my life! My husband and I banter like this CONSTANTLY. I must admit, I am just like Myra, I try not to tell him what to do, but make suggestions…which is turn normally make him change his ways to accommodate things like “stopping by CVS if we are by chance going that way”. This was incredibly easy to relate to making it very enjoyable!

Thanks, but it’s a man’s perception, ask the same question of a woman driver . . . Seriously, I’m married 43 years, yes to the same man.
